Can Supes get drunk?

Nonnies I have an important question: How is Clark's metabolism when it comes to alcohol or drugs? Is he like Steve Rogers and thus doomed to eternal soberity? Does his Krytonian biology react differently to drugs than human?

(Can he even get sick? Take Advil? What's his immunity like??)

In short, if playboy!Bruce wants to butter him up with a couple glasses of wine, would Clark feel the effect at all? Can anyone even roofie Superman?? Inquiring minds want to know!

I've seen takes in canon and fics where Superman can't get drunk at all, or it takes a LOT for him to feel any effects. Roofies and drugs probably wouldn't have an effect, since he regularly sucks up poisonous gases and spits them into the atmosphere. He can't get sick (at least not from human diseases) although IDK if that means he can't be a carrier for diseases or not.

But if he's de-powered, say, from using too much of his powers a la New 52 super flare, or kryptonite exposure, then he'd react just like a regular human. And in case you didn't know, there are different colours of kryptonite with different effects.

Supes is also especially vulnerable to magic. Hope that helps!

The turtleneck thing

It seems no one have used the post for writing yet? I'm stuck at a family dinner surrounded by screaming children and it seems as good a time as any, so I'll start.

Clark hears it, a quiet exhale, a considering, promising sound that somehow reverberates all the way up his spine, giving him goosebumps despite the fact that they're indoors in a crowded kitchen, with the oven on no less. Not for the first time that evening he wishes his hearing weren't so sensitive -- there is simply no way he can ignore Bruce's muscles shifting under his shirt as he follows Clark's every move, his lips parting whenever Clark is turned or stretched or bent at a certain angle, his heart speeding up like a siren call. If Bruce's smirk the few times Clark catches his eyes is anything to go by, the man knows exactly what he's doing. Clark has had to turn away every time, face hot, reminding himself over and over that they have company.

Very stern, very rowdy, very superhuman company.

A family gathering, his mother has said, to celebrate the return of my boy. Three whole years have passed for everyone but him, Clark is not going to pretend that it doesn't hurt to see Lois intertwining her fingers with Diana's, his engagement ring held on a chain round her neck as a keepsake. He also can't, however, pretend that is doesn't hurt less compared to when he woke up six months ago. Perhaps because he didn't spend a second of those six months alone -- just not with the company he would expect.

The last chunk of carrot splits neatly into four under his knife. Clark looks up at his mother's puttering back, looks over at Alfred's dismissive wave, casts his gaze around one more time, desperate for something else to chop--

--and finds none, obviously. Bruce is leaving his seat by the table, throwing one last look over his shoulder before disappearing into the dark hallway. Clark despairs. It is Thanksgiving, the whole League plus his ex-girlfriend are in various degrees of inebriation all over his childhood home, here he is trying to be a good born-again Superman, and Bruce is practically taunting him to misbehave?

Clark really, really hates to be underestimated.

It is embarassing how much it turns him on to be yanked into the storage room, pushed against the door and then have all six-foot-four of muscles descend onto him. Clark has to bite back a laugh because Bruce's stubble on his neck tickles, really, not because the speed of all his blood plunging south has left him a little light-headed. He raises his hand in the dark to reach for Bruce's collar, his thrumming veins, the slick cut of his fancy waistcoast. Under the rolled up sleeves his shoulders are bulging, given the hands now impatiently pushing Clark's sweater all the way up his chin.

"What's with you today?" Clark asks, breathless, his grip quickly slips into slicked back hair as Bruce drops to his knees right there and pushes his face against's Clark's stomach. The math is off somewhere, Clark just can't figure out where, and Bruce is making it seriously hard to think straight with how he's tonguing Clark's belly-button like that.

Then Bruce licks a line, straight up his sternum, hands pushing Clark's jeans down to bare his hipbones. Even knowing what will come next, Clark still feels his knees go weak when Bruce's mouth moves down. No tongue, no bites, just the ghost of lips and feather-light breaths. Clark twists away, over sensitive, hair raising as if electrified, clasping a hand over his mouth to stop his sound. It's unbearable what his body does, what Bruce makes it do. One searing hot brand, fading as soon as he stepped into sunlight, and yet he can't help trembling every time Bruce goes near now, every time Bruce looks at him; pumped with an exciting mix of trepidation, fear, and arousal.

Clarke Kent floated, eyes wild and lost, unheeding of the onslaught a summer storm was putting her under. She wore the same dress they buried her in, now clinging to her and transparent like a second skin. Muddy water dripped in a stream from her socked feet, her hands were dirtied, broken-nailed and possibly bleeding. She looked half-feral, as if despite the innitial knocking she had no idea where she was nor why. If not for the texture of the dress, the very real drops of water from her dress Belle could feel on her hand, Belle would deem Clarke another apparition her brain cooked up to torture her.

Belle stood there for god knew how long, calling Clarke by her name, her moniker, revoking Lois Lane and Martha, telling her about her job at the Planet, her home in Kansas. Gradually, she realized it was not the content of her speed, but her stabilizing heartbeat that drew Clarke's attention. She saw it, Clark's finger twitching, her lips miming counting the beats.

Belle stood back, took several deep breaths.

The wild expression slowly dissipated. Clarke's flitting eyes found her face again, and this time it stayed there, imploring, wondering. Belle willed her heart not to speed up again, willed herself to look back, to take Clarke in, hoping somehow to broadcast the reality of both their existence through Clarke's dream-like state.

Slowly, Clarke's eyes drifted closed.

Like a puppet suddenly snipped from its strings, she dropped. Belle caught her, easy, wrapping her in the robe that was bundled and thus thankfully half-dry. The split second Belle felt that solid weight in her arms, her knees trembled, but she gritted her teeth and stood up straight, carrying Clarke inside.

In the next hours, she rang for Alfie. Put the house under lockdown. Cleaned Clarke up, changed her into warm clothes. Went down the Cave to finish wiring her half-constructed Kryptonian chamber. Took a shower, after realizing that it was morning and her rain-soaked night clothes had dried by themselves.

So, question time! In BVS, we all know Bruce slashed Clark on the cheek with the Kryptonite (knife play, kinky!) and it was still there when he found Lex and the enhanced-Zod, but do you think it's permanent and is still around when Clark comes back?

I'm so sorry you asked a legit question and all I can think about are the pornangst implications. Clark was hurt at night though, so I guess we can safely assume he would be right as rain when he sees sunlight?

Can I ask the people who know more about the dynamic/friendship of Bruce and Clark, specifically in the comicsverse versus the various animated movies? Like, are they really opposites or just two sides of the same coin, as the saying goes? In a lot of the fics I've read so far, they're best friends, but is it different in other mediums?

Background info: I'm a pretty new comic reader, but I've read a fair number of Superman/Batman stories and filled in the gaps with Wikipedia. Generally, yes, they're shown to be good or sometimes best friends. There are exceptions based on who's writing them of course.

The Golden and Silver Age stuff had them going through some campy, wacky adventures, with an easy camaraderie. In 1986 Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" was published and popularized a much more violent, dark Batman who fights Superman the government tool. It isn't canon, but it's so popular that it's influenced a lot of comics (and other media) that came after.

The 90s saw a return to them becoming friends, although with some friction based on their differences in methods and ideologies. This dynamic carried over to the 90s animated series that were so popular and also influenced a lot of peoples' interpretations of them.

I've been cherry-picking my way through the New 52, but it seems like the dynamic is about the same, maybe with a little more grit and melodrama. Although with Rebirth coming up, IDK if any of the New 52 stuff will count?

I think the ideas behind BvS aren't too far off the mark from more traditional characterizations of Superman and Batman. But it definitely pushes Bruce's mental state and paranoia to a new level. Most of the times when they fight in the comics, it's because Superman is mind-controlled and Batman is forced to stop him. It's rare that Batman actually goes so far that he wants to fight Superman, other than TDK.

Bruce's house Qs

So I was looking at Bruce's house on google maps (link: https://goo.gl/maps/qQu1p7RuGiT2) and for the life of me can't see a bed? IIRC, in the movie the bed was in a corner by a deck, so is it where the oval table is in google maps?

Also, what a depressing house, amirite? There doesn't seem to be a bathroom or kitchen (either on the top floor or the batcave), so does Alfred deliver all his meals? And where does Alfred live now anyways? Thoughts on this, anon?

In my head canon the closed-off wooden area is a bathroom, and I'd replace the second seating area with a minibar/kitchen thing. And put the bed at the far end, because why put the bed by the front door?

Side note: has anyone seen the artbook for the film, and is it worth checking out for concept art/set details? The movie magazine seriously disappointed me on that front.

I'm pretty sure the google maps thing just doesn't show the entire house - just like the entrance to the Batcave is just random on google maps. I think the bedroom part is in its own semi-separate room, also by the window, and I think both kitchen and bathroom are just not shown (either in the movie nor on google maps). I strongly doubt that Alfred would let Bruce build a house without a kitchen. ;)

My assumption for Alfred was that either the house is a lot bigger than it appears here and has a separate room where Alfred lives, or Alfred lives in a similar house nearby and just comes over.

Bruce giving in to Clark's advances because of guilt

The sparring and damsel fills have made me think of a newly revived Clark, depowered and feeling a bit useless, a bit lost, cranky in the way someone normal would feel with a cold, because going from invulnerability and super strength to normal must make you feel weak and slow, like everything's much harder.

Oh and Lois hugged him so hard and they cried and cuddled but in the end she gave him his ring back because she'd moved on.

Anyway cue Bruce, having a total nonreaction (that speaks VOLUMES) when 1st seeing Clark and seeing behind the easy smiles that Clark is lonely as fuck, feels particularly lost. They spend time together and somehow get involved, and then down the line Bruce makes Clark think that he did it all out of guilt (for trying to kill him, for his actual death), so that Clark breaks it off. Because Clark is doing better, he shouldn't have Bruce dragging him down. Which is Bruce's way of saying that he's fallen for hard for Clark and he shouldn't have nice things, ever.

I'm that anon who commented on that post and while my au isn't necessarily based on the movie, I just wanted to share it with you. It's really awful and I am a terrible, awful person for thinking of it, but I needed to get it out of my head, so...here it is.

Bruce winds up in a hostage situation where the bad guy robs a bank and decides that one of the hostages is too pretty to let go. So Bruce offers to take their place, so bad guy takes him and lets the other hostages go. Telling them not to breathe a word or he’ll kill them. Then, a few hours later, he lets Bruce go. And Batman begins just to be a little more reckless, but nothing too remarkable.

A couple weeks later, there’s a Bruce Wayne sex tape released on the internet. The fallout is terrible and Bruce just stays in during the day while everyone else just gives him disapproving looks and think’s he’s gone too far. And Batman during the night gets even more reckless and doesn’t protect himself as much as he used to.

And one night, while attempting to save someone, their blood mixes with his.

Then, after several months of not feeling well and it affecting his life enough to make him actually run some tests, he figures out he’s got AIDS and starts testing out medication and things.

In the meantime, his personal relationships have pretty much deteriorated, so there’s not really one to tell and things just keep building up and building up, until one day, one of the batfam stumble across an uncut version of a video from the day of the bank robbery in Batman’s files.

He blinked, but the results on the screen didn’t waver. The glow of the screen light up the cave, making the bats squeakily grumble. They settled down quickly, rustling their wings occasionally to remind him they were still here.

He rubbed his eyes and blinked again. The results didn’t change.

He sighed, leaning forward on his elbows and slumping down until his head touched the cold metal. His eyes closed and he tried to breathe.

He imagined he could hear Alfred walking around upstairs, although the cave walls were too thick to transfer sound. He imagined the kitchen, bright light and cream walls, the dark doorway and vault beyond.

No, that wasn’t the kitchen. That was- No

He pushed himself away from the table, punching a few keys with a hand and spinning around. Behind him, the screen shut off, darkness instantly surging back to resume its rightful place.

He stumbled towards the stairs, leaning on them panting. Eventually, he wound up with his back to the wall, head between his knees, shaking.

Alfred would find him like that, hours later, the tea tray dropping as he rushed to Bruce’s side.

Sadly I do not know of any other kinkmemes that are being actively filled. I responded over in the Ask A Mod thread with links that I know to ones that have received prompts within the past two-three months. But because they're on livejournal, and don't have (or I can't find) flatviews to view if there have been any recent fills.

So no idea if those kinkmemes are basically abandoned or not. You may get some mileage sharing prompts on tumblr if they're superbat.

And since I'm intrigued, I'd kind of love it if you'd share them here too. <3

BVS Time Travel AUs!

So, imagine if either future Bruce or Clark traveled back in time to relive the events of BVS. My idea is having their future self take over their past self, but having two versions of them would be interesting too!

My time travel au idea was basically just future Bruce coming back and winding up in a coma because he grabbed the spear and stabbed Doomsday before Clark could. And then once he wakes up, Clark/Lois/Diana are all super protective because someone has to save that self sacrificing idiot.

Well, for starters I'm definitely interested in your idea! I think there's a lot of directions you could go just depending on how far back they travel - I'd love the idea of future!Bruce coming back right into the middle of the fight, with picking up the spear himself being the only thing he has time to change, because ugh yes. But if he came back to a point earlier in the movie, I feel like the angle would end up being more about averting the whole situation, since future!him knows better than to waste any time trying to kill Superman.

... And now you've got me thinking about the version of this where future!Bruce, who's a lot more concerned about Zod than Clark and also possibly still feels guilty about watching Clark die, interacting with the past!Clark who still thinks Batman's kind of a menace and doesn't trust him at all. :DDDDDDDD

BUT. Bringing doubles into it would be interesting too - it would be kind of hilarious for Clark to keep running into Batman everywhere, and half the time he's a dick and the other half of the time he's insisting they need! to work! together! /o\

And of course I'd also love it if Clark's death actually just sent him backwards - something about all that kryptonite and fire and lightning, whatever, handwavery is a proud comics tradition. There's so much that could be done depending on when he ended up: at the party, so he could decide to help Bruce get the LexCorp data instead of fighting with him, or right before the confrontation with the Batmobile. Clark changing his tune then would probably only make Bruce EVEN MORE SUSPICIOUS. :D

Reunion OR BVS Bruce meets Jason

I WROTE THIS WHILE LISTENING TO THE BVS OPENING AND LET ME TELL YOU, THAT WAS A BAD IDEA.


The gun glinted in the light, held with trembling hands. Blood splashed to the floor, running down from the right corner of his mouth.

“You still wouldn’t kill him” he snarled, fingers tightening on the trigger. “You branded, killed all those people, but you couldn’t even kill him.”

“Jason” Batman said, voice a cracking growl. “Jason”

He took a step forward, hesitated and then in one swift motion, tugged off his gloves and unbuckled the cape. Jason’s eyes widening as he removed the armor piece by piece, until he stood in his underclothes, cowl still on his face.

“What are you doing” Jason said, voice robbed of breath.

Finally, he got to his knees, tugging off the cowl and spreading his arms wide.

“I failed you,” he said, voice flayed apart. “I let you die when it should have been me. Take your vengeance.”

“No” Jason whispered, gun slipping from limp fingers. “What are you doing?”

“I let you die” Bruce repeated, further exposing the vulnerable parts of his body. “Take your pound of flesh, I am yours.”

Jason fell to his knees, hands gripping the earth, tears running down his face.

“I hated you” he said. “For the longest time, I hated you."

“I deserve it” Bruce said. He was crying too, tears reflecting harsh moonlight.

Finally, Jason looked up, looked at Bruce keeling there, pieces of the Bat scattered around him.

“Dad”

Then he was up, knocking him over until they smashed against the dirt. Bruce’s hands grabbed his wrists, fingers wrapping against the pulse points.

“Jason” he said. “My son, it’s gonna be okay.”

“Yes,” Jason cried, embracing him. “I know”

Friending Meme

Reading through the whole thread about other kinkmemes, I noticed that some people were talking about the eternal problem of getting to know people in tumblr times, so I was wondering - would you guys be interested in a friending meme? I do want to keep the kinkmeme itself mostly anonymous, but that doesn't mean we can't get to know each other in namespace as well, follow each other on tumblr/LJ/DW/whatnot etc.

Exchange plans

Potential exchange mod here. So here's what I've got so far, based on my own ideas and some input on FFA:

1) The exchange should start at the earliest in August, when the BvS DVD is out in more countries and Suicide Squad will be out in most countries.

2) Nominations can be for both characters and relationships (& and /).

3) You can nominate characters that have not yet appeared in the DCEU, if - for example - you want fic about how BvS!Bruce would interact with Dick. In those cases requests should have a clear relation to the DCEU, though. Maybe non-DCEU characters can only be nominated in relationship tags with actual DCEU characters? So you could nominate relationship: Bruce & Dick, but not just character: Dick? I'm not sure yet how exactly to handle that.

4) I am planning to do hand-matching. People can offer and request optional tags (like fluff or identity porn or casefic or whatnot), I will use that and other optional details/letters for as-ideal-as-possible matches, but you're only guaranteed to match on a character/pairing you offered/requested. Does that make sense?

5) I am willing to go with a minimum offer and request of 1, under the assumption that nobody will abuse this and exclusively request Zod/the stewardess on Wonder Woman's plane. If someone ends up unmatchable, I will contact them and ask them to add more offers/requests. I just don't want to force the bunch of Bruce/Clark shippers we'll probably have to offer or request stuff they don't really want when there will be no problem whatsoever to match them on their preferred ship. While hand-matching, I could try to match people on rarer ships when possible so it doesn't end up being all Bruce/Clark. Do you think that would work?

Other stuff I'm not sure about yet:

1) Exact schedule

2) Name. Does anyone have ideas? I'm awful at names and if nobody has a better idea, it might well end up being called DCEU Exchange.

3) Should it be only fic or fic and art? I'd like to include art as well, but I'm afraid it might make matching even harder.

That got a bit TLDR. Any suggestions, anons? Anything you don't like and would like to see done differently?

BVS Batman meets Comics Batman

In celebration of the new prompt post, have some ambiguous snippets in which BVS Batman and Comics Batman meet.

1.

“You killed people,” the other Batman said, from his perch at the far end of the roof. “You branded them.”

Bruce frowned at him.

“They’re like weeds,” he said, “you have to rip them out by the roots to prevent them from growing again.”

The other Batman stared at him, eyes sharp.

“How long ago did Jason die?” He said quietly.

Bruce stood up, pulling out the grappling hook.

“Long enough,” he said shortly. “Let’s go”

Bruce & Jason- Fear Gas

Fear toxin makes Bruce think Alfred's dead. This is what I have so far.

Jason snapped awake as the window slid open. Cold air blew through the room and he shivered, tugging the blanket more firmly around him. He forced his eyes to slide shut as a shape slipped inside, shutting the window gently. Uneven footsteps neared his bed and he could hear unsteady breathing.

“Jason” whispered a voice full of pain and fear. “Jason”

Bruce, Jason thought. What the fuck is he doing here?

He stayed still, keeping his breathing even and heart-rate steady.

A hand touched his forehead, trembling as it skimmed down his face to hover over his nose and mouth.

“Jason” Bruce said again, voice broken and Jason grabbed his hand, sitting up.

“Bruce,” he said. “What are you doing here?”

“I,” Bruce said, stumbling over the words. “I wanted…”

His voice trailed off and Jason switched on the bedside lamp.

Bruce’s suit was torn in several places and blood dripped down his right arm. Water trickled down from underneath the cowl and it took Jason a long moment to realize it was tears.

“What happened?” He said gripping the cowl and lifting it off.

Underneath, Bruce’s eyes were red rimmed and unfocused, eyes darting back and forth around the room. His eyes flicked towards Jason every few seconds, trying to focus on him.

“Bruce,” Jason said again, tone softening. “What happened?”

Bruce slumped to the floor, leaning against the side of the bed. More tears dripped down his face and he didn’t speak for a long time.

Finally, in a quiet voice. “Alfred died”

Shit, Jason thought, then caught sight of the calendar , at today’s date circled in red. It was the anniversary of his death, and now-

“Shit” Jason said.

I'm only pulling WW and Flash, read the 80pg, and read some summaries about other series. So this is mostly general thoughs. May be some spoilers ahead.

The 80pg was full of ~feels~ but I'm torn about the Watchmen tie in. It felt like it was 70pgs of DC apologizing for the New 52, then saying "but it wasn't out fault"

I know some people are upset about the fact that they're bringing back a lot of straight, white male characters. But I think DC is making the most out of a bad situation where they never should've retconned the existence of those characters in the first place. I don't think people would've been quite so upset about the New 52 if they hadn't wiped so many characters from history. Sure fans will be upset if you kill off a characte/take them out of superhero-ing and inreoduce a new one, but it doesn't invalidate everything those characters have done, like the New 52 did.

It is a shame that more diverse POC/female/queer characters aren't in the spotlight right now, but they *still exist* in the current canon. There shouldn't be any reason for creative teams to not use them (barring editiorial BS), if fans show demand and support those titles that do have diverse casts (plugging Earth 2: Society. Art has taken a hit since Jorge Jimenez left the title, but it's got SUCH a great, diverse cast).

I do have issues with a some things, mainly how the transition in the Super-books was handled, but they were such a meas in the New 52 anyways that I'm mot sure anything else would've been better. Writing out nu!Supes and Superboy like that did leave a bad taste in my mouth though.

BTW, if you're looking for comics talk, I've found the DCComics subreddit to be a pretty good place. Pretty relaxed atmosphere, and the posters were super helpful in helping me to understand comics and recommend reading.

Completely by accident, I was browsing through the kinkmeme the other day wondering how long it takes for a prompt to get fills, what prompt has the most fills... you know, those weird things that you do when its 3am in the morning and you've been painting all day.

Art!anons, I'm in desperate need of some good hand painting/rendering tutorials. Any style, any program (photoshop preferable). I've been bashing my head over a painting and the knuckles just don't look right, and distress is setting in. This painting may be out the door soon, but i'm tired of not being able to paint hands right.

God, hands are the worst. I've never found a good tutorial on actually painting them, only endless ones on constructing them in the first place. I haven't really evolved beyond saturated/pinker tones on the fingers and bluer on the back of the hand then gratuitous radiosity and highlights, then oops, better spend ages pushing everything around til it serendipitously looks right. HANDS /throws up hands

Writing in sections, or dropping all at once--what's your preference?

Hey fellow author-anons & reader-anons, just had a question about fills. If an author has written a fairly long-ish piece, do you prefer if they post it in sections or post it all at once? As an author, do you like to post in small sections so you can focus on the section you're writing, or do you like to get it all done in one go (if possible)? Does it change depending on what you're writing, or what your goals are?

Curious to know what other anons think!

As a reader, I'm kind of greedy and want everything at once, but I feel like I pay closer attention if I get the fic bit by bit. I also leave, overall, longer comments if I comment on every single section than if I leave one big comment on the entire fic.

For that same reason, as an author I prefer to post in sections. I find it motivating to get some feedback while I'm still writing the rest of the fic. But that only applies to plottier fic or other fics that lend themselves to chapters/sections. If I just write a PWP, I'll write it and post it in one.
