Discussion/Writing Post

This post is for everything that's not prompts, fills or comments on prompts/fills. You can discuss the movies or trailers or headcanons here, but you can also use this as a writing post: talk about fic ideas you've had (whether they're based on kinkmeme prompts or not), brainstorm with others, bounce ideas off someone, or post snippets you've written to get some feedback. Or even just some cheerleading and support while you write. You can also use this post to find a beta.

Basically: if it doesn't go on the prompt post, you can do it here.

Prompt post #1 is here. All non-DCEU prompts go here.

Can't edit, but in case anyone's looking for slash SuperBat comic recs, here are a few in no particular order. Most, if not all should be available digitally, and you can always check your local library for some of the collected editions.

"For the Man Who Has Everything": Batman, Robin, and Wonder Woman visit Superman at the Fortress of Solitude to give him birthday presents.

World's Finest #289 "The Kryll Way of Dying": one of the most ridiculously slash stories ever. Superman and Batman go to the Fortress of Solitude to have a heart to heart, and then come space worms that feed off of emotion. You can find a summary and scans here: http://the-isb.blogspot.ca/2005/11/where-they-went-wrong-superman-and.html

JLA: Shogun of Steel: and Elseworlds (AU) publication set in feudal Japan where fem!Bruce falls in love with Kal. This is a canon AU. In my mind this takes place on one of DC's infinite multiverses. Probably hard to find this in stores, so here are some scans: https://bagheera-san.dreamwidth.org/266906.html

Superman/Batman: this series has a LOT of great moments. The first annual where they have to share a bed on a cruise ship, kind-of-genderswap/kind-of-bodyswap, and OMG SO MANY AUs including one where they were raised as brothers. I highly recommend this. Two of the story arcs were also adapted into animated movies (Public Enemies and Apocalypse).

New 52 Batman/Superman: the "Cross World" storyline where we see New 52 Earth-2 versions of Bruce and Clark who met when they were young and became BFFs (them meeting as kids is an AU of a short story in the Superman/Batman story. I love that about comics!), "Second Chance" with body swap, "Siege", which includes the issue where the writers spell out that Bruce is the one that Clark cares about the most in the world.

And not a comic rec, but definitely check out the DC Animated Universe cartoons if you haven't already: Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited, and Batman Beyond. If you just want the Superbat episodes, the Superman series has a 3-parter "World's Finest" where he meets Batman for the first time, and "Knight Time" also involves Batman. JL and JLU have both on a regular basis, but some good Superbat episodes are: "Secret Origins", "The Savage Time", "A Better World" (JUSTICE LORDS), "Hereafter", "Starcrossed", "For the Man Who Has Everything", "Kids' Stuff" (if you're into de-aging), "This Little Piggy" (singing Bruce). Superman is in Batman Beyond's 2-parter "The Call". There are also tie-in comics. I haven't read the JL ones, but the Batman and Superman tie-ins are great.

Some of the Lego Batman/DC stuff is actually pretty good too. It's kind of cheesy, but it exaggerates Batman's paranoia and Superman's boy scout nature to hilarious levels sometimes.

Sorry for the tl;dr. I am also open to comic recs if there are more experienced readers around!

OP here...you are a godsend! Thank you so much, and especially for the recs. I'm new to the comics aspect of it as well, although I've sort of kept up with the different universes, and hopefully I can follow Rebirth if I have the time. Rebirth doesn't have Batman/Superman though, does it? It has Trinity, however, which I LOVE! Diana shaking her heads at the antics of men always makes my day.

I reckon Supes and Batman have the possibility of being the most epic friends (and that's how many people see them, canon-wise too, I think) and it's so much fun slashing them too...to get an AU of THAT would be the most brilliant thing ever, but a fangirl can only hope ;P

Glad I could help! If you want any more recs I can probably dig some up. I have very few Superbat fans to talk to ... I still don't get how tumblr works LOL. Try not to get too hung up on the universes and timelines, because they've been rebooted so many times, and with each reboot comes along another one to fix what the first one messed up, and on and on ... so just follow writers/artists that you like. The comic community also tends to be good at giving recs, so don't hesitate to ask if you're curious about a series/story arc!

Batman/Superman is ending. Trinity won't start until later in the year IIRC. I'm super-excited for Trinity too, because Francis Manapul and Clay Mann do gorgeous artwork.

If you want more AUs, you should check out Grant Morrison's Multiversity. It shows a lot of alternate Earths, and while there's none where Batman and Superman are together, IIRC there is one where the equivalent of Green Lantern and The Flash are together.

It's also fascinating to see how the DCCU will have Bruce and Clark behave around each other, especially Bruce. They didn't have time to be friends after Bruce aborts his attempt to kill Clark, although I could say that a positive connection between them was already made by then, because then it had just been full of negativity. Plus, that scene when Diana arrived in the battlefield and the 'is she with you' exchange happened, there was the briefest, most tantalising glimpse of what their friendship could be like. Then during the burial, when Bruce said he failed Clark, one could presume that once Clark comes back, Batman would try not to fail him again, which means trying to help him, fostering a working relationship that'll eventually crossover to being actual friends, etc.

I just really want to see how Batfleck and Supercavill will be together on screen when nobody is trying to kill each other, because there was such a great chemistry between them when they thought they were enemies! I have so many feelings and the follow up movies are so far away.........

Yesssssss. I have to admit, I have lots of ~feels~ about the movie, not all of them positive, so I'll try to keep this on topic. But as a Superbat shipper, this movie made me so, so happy that Clark was the one who was able to bring Bruce back from the dark path that he was on. In the comics, this could be most closely related to Tim Drake/Robin III's role in putting Bruce back together after Dick Grayson/Robin I leaving him and Jason Todd/Robin II's death. I think it just says so much about how much of an influence Clark has on Bruce, even before they really know each other.

I'm sure the later movies will play up the ideological differences between them again, plus now with the age difference and Clark being dead for the start of it, Bruce will probably push to be more of the "leader"of the JL. So I'm sure there will be friction there, but hopefully it'll become more like banter.

Suicide Squad's only about 2 months away!

NA

I'm pretty sure I've seen an interview where Henry's mentioned they are going to be bickering over who gets to lead the JL, so I have my fingers crossed for lots of potential UST where that is concerned :D
