Well, for starters I'm definitely interested in your idea! I think there's a lot of directions you could go just depending on how far back they travel - I'd love the idea of future!Bruce coming back right into the middle of the fight, with picking up the spear himself being the only thing he has time to change, because ugh yes. But if he came back to a point earlier in the movie, I feel like the angle would end up being more about averting the whole situation, since future!him knows better than to waste any time trying to kill Superman.

... And now you've got me thinking about the version of this where future!Bruce, who's a lot more concerned about Zod than Clark and also possibly still feels guilty about watching Clark die, interacting with the past!Clark who still thinks Batman's kind of a menace and doesn't trust him at all. :DDDDDDDD

BUT. Bringing doubles into it would be interesting too - it would be kind of hilarious for Clark to keep running into Batman everywhere, and half the time he's a dick and the other half of the time he's insisting they need! to work! together! /o\

And of course I'd also love it if Clark's death actually just sent him backwards - something about all that kryptonite and fire and lightning, whatever, handwavery is a proud comics tradition. There's so much that could be done depending on when he ended up: at the party, so he could decide to help Bruce get the LexCorp data instead of fighting with him, or right before the confrontation with the Batmobile. Clark changing his tune then would probably only make Bruce EVEN MORE SUSPICIOUS. :D

AYRT. Those sound amazing! I was imagining Bruce coming back and trying to change things, but events keep happening the way they have before and so his last ditch effort is to knock Kal out with the spear, shove him into Lois' arms and then go stab Doomsday with the spear. And Diana tells him "you will not survive this" and Bruce is like "just hold him still for me." And then Kal wakes up just in time to see Bruce stab Doomsday and manages to fly in and rescue him before Bruce actually dies, but Bruce's body can't take any more and is like "I'm done" and thus the coma.

... Oh, man, EVEN ANGSTIER THAN I HAD IMAGINED. orz I especially love the idea of the fight happening but to such a different end - that Bruce is trying to take Clark down not to kill him but to disable him for a bit so he CAN'T get himself killed. *flails*

(And I wouldn't say no to Superman desperately rushing Bruce's busted-up body to whatever's left of the scout ship/genesis chamber, either, now that I think of it. :D)

The spear glowed at the tip as he swung at Superman, swung at Clark. There was more kryptonite in it than before and Clark weakened quickly, body falling to the ground as he thrust the blunt end of the spear into his stomach. As Clark gasped for air, he flipped the spear around and hit Clark with the flat side of the kyrptonite tip. Behind him, Lois screamed, rushing to Clark's side. She ran her hands over his chest and touched his neck, finding a steady pulse. She glared at the Bat.

"Take care of him" the Bat rasped, hefting the spear. He turned towards the battlefield, where the warrior woman was flinging the lasso around the monster.

"Hold him steady" he yelled and Diana nodded.

The monster roared, he leaped and the kryptonite spear went straight into its heart.

*claps hands* Oh, lovely, anon - I really am enamored of Bruce beating Clark up to keep him safe, it's just such a Bruce thing to do!

Not sure if this is actually continuing this, but here, have another.


Blood dripped from the spear, from him. The green glow washed out his visible skin. His eyes darted between the spear and the dead monster beyond.

There was a thump as Superman landed in front of him, Diana right behind. Lois scrambled after them, carefully picking her way through the rubble.

“This” he rasped, throat forgetting the memory of water, “was not how this was supposed to go.”

“And how was this supposed to go” Diana asked him, moving closer to take the spear from his unresistant grip. Gravity pulled at him, body shaking and knees bending. He breathed, deep slow breaths, tried to put the world back in order.

“You thought you wouldn’t make it” Superman said suddenly. There was a line of dried blood on his face, from where Bruce had smashed the flat end of the spear against his head.

Bruce met his gaze, held it even as he saw the image of his dead body lying limp on the hill of rubble.

“You wouldn’t have”
