Hey exchange mod!

Schedule Two seems best to me.

Normally having a longer sign-up period is good for fandoms that are more diffuse--that is, word doesn't travel that quickly amongst the productive side of the fandom. The longer sign-up dates basically allow people to trickle in under their own power.

HOWEVER, I've found that for really small fandom things, usually you get most of the sign-ups that you're going to get in the first 3-4 days, then if they trickle it later it'll be weeks later, and thus, past the time that would be available for this exchange.

The nominations period, however, should function as advertisement for the exchange, though, so that might get us more people in a shorter period of time.

In that case, I'd say that a week for sign-ups isn't bad at all.

Especially if you start advertising for nominations starting next week. (?) That should hopefully get the word out really quickly. Just a thought!

Thanks for the feedback! I agree that in mono-fandom exchanges, shorter signup periods are less of a problem than with multi-fandom ones.

I would definitely try to set up everything this weekend, the DW comm and the AO3 collection, so I can start advertising it. I'm not sure how many non-kinkmeme/non-FFA people we'd get, but let's hope for the best.

Any opinion on how long the writing period should be?

What's the minimum wordcount for the exchange? I'd suggest at least 7 weeks, to be helpful towards people who are doing art because that almost always ends up taking longer than writing (imo at least!).

And banners or graphics or something would be really nice. :DD I am rubbish at making things like that. I guess it'd be nice to have a banner or so for the DW comm? And mostly some graphic to advertise it on tumblr, maybe that'll make more people take notice. Thank you for offering. <3

Are we still calling this DCEU Exchange? I've tried to come up with a better name, but I can't think of any canon quotes or so that would make for a good title. Diamond Absolutes just sounds like we're trying to sell jewellerey. ;)

I have no clever suggestions for an exchange name. And you know what, DCEU Exchange is serviceable. Especially because it includes the wider universe (suicide squad!) that something clever and BvS/MoS-y might not capture.

Everything else i'm thinking of are horrible, horrible puns. Puns that Bruce Wayne would make, because he doesn't want people to like him levels of bad.

DCEU Exchange seems like pretty safe middle ground. 8D

It really kind of dies. Diamond Absolutes - buy a cheap wedding ring here, I mean, er, write fic, maybe.

Awful Bruce Wayne puns would be hilarious, too. Hmm, or maybe there are some comic quotes that could work? I'll give it another day or two, and if I (or some other anon) can't think of a better name then, I'll stick with DCEU Exchange.

Good question about the banner requirements, I have honestly no idea. Anyone else?
We can go off anon, if you like, though considering my own complete lack of knowledge when it comes to anything graphics-related, maybe other anons can also help with banner and pixel requirements and whatnot?

Hmm, yeah, hopefully someone can help out there re:pixel requirements. I'll look into some of the Dreamwidth theme requirements. I can always design something with a lot of space that can be cropped out. I'm a lot more handy with tumblr image reqs.

Mainly, I'd love to know what kind of aesthetic you want to hit for the exchange. Basically I don't want to make something ugly where you'd go, 'ick no no no'.

I'd say the tumblr thing is more important anyway because that's where we'd, hopefully, get some more people to go "hey, this looks like a cool thing I want to do". Once they already hit the DW comm, it doesn't really matter if there is no pretty banner, if that's too much work/a pain to figure out.

You are asking me very difficult questions here. ;) I'd say something darker would probably go better with the general DCEU aesthetics? I guess you could use a pretty screenshot (from the Knightmare, from the fight scene, something with the trinity on it, idk) or otherwise something involing the Bats+Supes logo? And then it says DCEU Exchange (or magical more exciting name we can't think of) on it somewhere? Honestly, I don't know shit about graphic-making. Unless it's pink and with comic sans, I probably won't find it ugly. ;)

Aye, you're right. Once they're hooked on tumblr, we can reel them in (even if the site is bannerless).

I live to ask difficult question! xD I could do something in line with BvS aesthetics. The dark tones of the movie+a nice typographic treatment would look really striking. Tho if we're not being 100% picky about it, there were a few suicide squad promos that were done in a very stark black/white/red.

Exactly, I think the banner/graphic is mostly important for the advertising part.

You can use Suicide Squad promo stuff, too, if you like, though I figure we'll probably have more BvS people. Probably depends on how shippy Suicide Squad turns out to be. ;D

As long as our Exchange Squad won't turn out to be a Suicide Squad, too ... ;D

By the weekend would be good, yeah. ;) I'll try to set up the comms and everything on Friday or Saturday, but if we only start advertising on Monday or so, that should be fine, too. Half the time the internet seems dead on Sundays anyway.

I'm 95% certain that we'll all make it through the exchange with only minor bodily injuries. Unless anons like to draft while they're walking. Then I revise that down to like 75% (getting kneecapped while you're brainstorming is no fun).

Awesome! I'll make some pretties, show you some draft-y banner ideas tomorrow or Friday. I'm assuming that DCEU Exchange has been yay'd as the official name, and i'll make mockups accordingly.

It would be a pity if the exchange only happened once because we all accidentally died while doing it. I would not feel like a very successful mod in that case. ;)

Dimensions are 700x316. I can easily size it up or down.

I know this banner gives the exchange an overall BvS flavor, but I was hard-pressed to come up with imagery that summed up the whole of the DCEU.

My only possible suggestion would maybe be including "Nominations open August 1" as well, since you included signups (which I think is a great idea). To avoid people (who only look at the banner without reading the text that goes with it) thinking nothing will happen until August 8 and then being all "but I didn't nominate the things I want!"

Yeah, tumblr dimensions are ~540px. The site will downsize images for you, and there's not much of a loss of quality. But! There's no reason for us to worry 'bout that, as me and photoshop are buddies.

Reading this I thought of the "Dawn of Just Us" but that's probably too superbat/BvS centric. DCEU exchange is just fine :)

Dawn of Just Us would be adorable, haha. :D I kind of like it, but yeah, it might come across as too focused on one ship/movie. Guess we'll have to keep it simple.

I'm very unfamiliar with dreamwidth banner requirements. Do you know what pixel size you'll require for the community banner? Any kind of style that you'd like me to hit?

Or perhaps we should go somewhere off anon to machinate about banner/design things.

DW banner sizes depend on what layout you pick. And of course you can customise it so you can make it fit whatever image size you have, if you know how to edit HTML/CSS
