Coming back from the dead to find Lois has moved on is difficult and doesn't help with the dissociation Clark feels. Add to that the fact Clark is pretty much invisible and Superman is put on a pedestal, the only time people actually touch him are impersonal brushes by in the street and enemies' fists. He feels like he's losing touch completely. Bruce realises the issue and fixes things.
